Bulgarian citizenship by a foreigner by origin is acquired if:
- One of his parents is a Bulgarian citizen
- The foreigner comes from a family in which an ancestor, grandmother or grandfather, is a Bulgarian citizen
- The origin of a Bulgarian citizen is established by a court decision
Acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship by birth
Acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship by a foreigner by birth is possible if:
- The foreigner was born on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria and does not acquire another citizenship by origin
Acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship by general naturalization
Acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship by a foreigner by general naturalization:
- No less than 5 years before submitting the application for naturalization, the person has received a permit for permanent or long-term residence in the Republic of Bulgaria.
