Who is entitled to health insurance in Bulgaria?

In Bulgaria, the following categories of persons are subject to mandatory health insurance:

•  foreigners or stateless persons who have the right to long-term or permanent residence in Bulgaria;
• persons who have been granted refugee or humanitarian status or the right to asylum, as well as persons falling under the procedures for international protection;
• persons with temporary protection;
• foreign students and doctoral candidates admitted to higher education institutions and scientific organizations in Bulgaria;

Compulsory medical insurance for foreigners is required to obtain a Bulgarian visa "D", to obtain and extend a long-term residence permit (LRP), as well as to obtain a long-term residence permit in the EU (LRP).

The insurance contract for foreigners from Bulstrad Life in Bulgaria covers mandatory risks related to sudden illnesses, injuries and other emergencies, as well as expenses in the event of the death of the insured person. The minimum amount of insurance coverage is 60,000 BGN (30,000 EUR).
