What is a Digital Nomad Visa?
The Digital Nomad Visa allows third-country nationals to legally reside in Bulgaria while working remotely for an employer, company, or client registered outside the European Union, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland, and earning an annual income of €31,010. This regime is intended for individuals working entirely remotely using information technology and receiving income from abroad.
Who is eligible to apply for a Digital Nomad Visa?
- Foreigners working remotely under an employment contract for an employer registered outside the EU, EEA, and Switzerland.
- Owners, partners, shareholders (with a shareholding of more than 25%), managers, or legal representatives of a company registered outside the EU, EEA, and Switzerland through which they provide remote services.
- Self-employed individuals (freelancers) who have provided remote services using information technology for at least 1 year prior to applying.
Basic application requirements:
- Foreigner - citizen of a third country outside the EU, EEA, or Switzerland.
- Proof of an average annual income of at least €31,010.
- Guaranteed housing.
- Valid health insurance.
- No criminal record.
Permit validity:
After entering Bulgaria, an application is submitted for a long-term residence permit, which is issued for up to one year and can be extended once upon meeting the necessary conditions.
A foreign citizen who has received a digital nomad residence permit has the right to apply for family reunification. Family members of a foreign citizen who has received a digital nomad residence permit can receive a one-year residence permit.
